In search of good hiking pants on a budget.

I'm looking to find a good pair of pants for Fall - Spring hiking. I'm on a bit of a budget and tend to be really hard on pants so it's hard to justify spending the money on the pants I've been finding at the outdoor stores. Does anyone have any suggestions on pants that have worked for them?

You can get some good hiking pants at Andy & Bax. I wear BDU's (battle dress uniform). They come in all sizes and you can choose from blue, black, green, green camo, desert camo. All just for $39.95. Law enforcement and government agencies get their gear here. Also lot's of hiking, camping, and outdoor gear. Camelbacks are pretty reasonable too. Just a few blocks south of Burnside, on the east side of Grand Ave.
I'm a year round wilderness, primitive campsite and trail grunt for the FS and these pants are really tough. They have plenty of pockets and offer awesome flexibility for sasquatches like myself. I'm 6'4" and weigh 285lbs. Big 5 has a lot of good deals too.

60% cotton 40% polyester They don't shrink, and they're scratch resistant. I've knocked all shorts of branches and logs into them while doing trail brushouts, have torn them once.

60% cotton isn't great for keeping warm if you get a little wet
REI winter sale is 30% off which makes it a little more reasonable
I agree, REI is fairly expensive

I have a Colombia silver ridge convertible pant used couple of time with size is 32 and doesn't fit me since I lost weight. If you would like I can sell it to you for whatever you would like to pay or even not pay. PM me if you are interested.

We've found excellent deals at the Columbia Outlet in Sellwood. (Both my wife and I have snagged Mountain Hardwear hiking pants that shed rain like nobody's business. I was in a gusty "wintry mix" for over two hours the other day, and they weren't even what I'd call damp. Totally breathable, too.) Like any outlet, it's a crapshoot. Sure worth looking, though. The clearance racks are in back, on the left.
