The highlights:

Eleven different wildfires burning in the Central Cascade Range prompted officials to close the western half of the Three Sisters Wilderness effective today.

The closure covers 266,891 acres — or 417 square miles — and includes the majority of trails south of McKenzie Pass Highway 242 and some north of Cascade Lakes Highway 46 near Bend.

Popular areas impacted by the closure include Obsidian Trail, Sisters Mirror Lake and around 30 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail.

List of closures in the Three Sisters Wilderness

— Obsidian Trail, Wickiup Plains and Sisters Mirror Lake all closed.

— The northern closure area includes almost all trails south of Highway 242 and west of Forest Road 1018 and east of the Three Sisters Wilderness boundary in the Willamette National Forest down to approximately Scott’s Pass Trail.

— Trails north of Cascade Lakes Highway, west of the South Sisters Climber Trail and includes all of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) from Elk Lake north to the PCT Trailhead near Lava Camp Lake Campground.
