Two 19-year old women die on Timberline Trail

Yes. There are two branches that converge right below the PCT. The one on the left (north) is a bit cascade-ish and surrounded by brush, but the one on the right is a somewhat precipitous drop. You can see it in the Google Earth view:

These falls are basically right in between the two trails. It seems likely that the girls set up camp by going downhill from the upper loop trail, but the hikers who found them were on the PCT.

Yeah, there is a short user trail up the the falls from the PCT. You can not see them if you stay on either the Paradise trail or the PCT.
