SISTERS -- A Deschutes County sheriff's officer says a 69-year-old Sisters man hiking on a central Oregon trail collapsed and died despite efforts to revive and rescue him.
Lt. Scott Shelton says dispatchers received a call for help shortly after 7 a.m. Monday from hikers who said Robert Wayne Powell had collapsed and was not breathing. The other two hikers, both 19 years old, began CPR.
An air ambulance was unable to land nearby because of heavy timber.
Shelton says lifesaving efforts continued until medics arrived at about 8:30 a.m. CPR was discontinued after they consulted with emergency medical staff at a Bend hospital.

Thanks for posting, Wayne was a dear family friend that I've known for 35+ yrs. He loved the mountains and spent untold days and miles on the trails. He was in outstanding physical condition and had no health issues that I know of, so this is a huge shock to all that know him.
