Volunteer at Punchbowl Falls County Park - Oct 21

Post by justpeachy » October 16th, 2017, 6:30 am

Saturday, October 21, 9 AM to 3 PM

Overview

Punchbowl Falls County Park is a new park that opened in 2015. TKO has been a staunch partner of trail development for this gem of a park in Hood River County. The goal is to complete the trail loop during this 2017 season.

Project description

Work will involve new trail development along a ½ mile of planned trail that loops away from the riverside, back through the forested section to connect to the parking and main trailhead. We’ve made ample progress on brushing out the trail corridor and some initial tricky sections, now the time has come to start in on the trail tread.

Hiking information

Parking is near the work area, hiking distance is less than ¼ mile.

What to expect

You should expect to work on uneven terrain while working to create a trail corridor, remove debris and build up the trail tread.

What to bring

Bring a lunch and plenty of water, and snacks as desired. Also bring good work gloves, supportive boots, and rain gear as indicated by the weather forecast.

What to wear

Boots (tennis shoes are not allowed)
Long sleeved shirts recommended
Clothing as appropriate for the weather
Eye protection is recommended (eye glasses, safety glasses, etc.)
TKO will supply hard hats and safety glasses

Directions:

From Hood River, Hwy 30 (Oak St), go South on Hwy 281 (13th st)
Stay on 281 (there are several turns so watch signs to make sure you stay on 281!) for 11.1 miles
Take a right turn at the sign to Lost Lake. This is Punchbowl road but the Lost Lake sign is larger
Take the right turn just after crossing the creek (0.2 miles) to stay on Punchbowl Rd
The work site is 1.4 miles North on Punchbowl road
If you cross a high bridge you just passed the parking
