Volunteer with TKO! Elowah Falls, June 6

Post by Shoofly » June 5th, 2017, 4:27 pm

Elowah Falls, Columbia Gorge
Tuesday, June 6, 8:30 AM-3:30 PM

The Elowah Falls Trail in the Columbia Gorge had been closed for several weeks due to a slide. The Pacific Crest Trail Association and TKO did a total of 5 work parties in May, which allowed the trail to be opened for the Memorial Day weekend, which was the goal of the Oregon State Parks Recreation Department.

However, the trail in its current state requires more work for long-term sustainability. For this trail crew, volunteers will be working in the area of a 2-switchback route of approximately 170 yards that was built on unstable, gravelly soil, which will quickly erode if not stabilized. We will be installing crib walls for support on two upslope sections, using either large rocks, 6’ logs, or a combination of both.

Due to the area of the work site, this trail crew is limited to 8 volunteers. Learn more or sign up to volunteer here.

Thank you for supporting Oregon's trail community!
