Looking for UL hiking partners

Post by hov » May 3rd, 2017, 2:26 pm

Hi! I'm new here. I know this isn't an ultralight forum per se but just wanted to see if there are other UL people out there. I backpacked a bit as a kid but just got back into it about three years ago.

I completed a solo JMT trip last year over 11 days and the Wonderland trail the year before. I'm looking to explore more local trails this year. I'm open to hiking speed/distance but generally like to cover between 10-25 miles a day.

I enjoy chatting about gear, making gear, learning new techniques, planning hikes, and drinking beer (of course). I'm a 40 y/o married male. I have two kids that are still too young to do any serious hiking, but I hope to get them into it some day. Just looking for anyone else that shares these interests and might want to do some trips. I'm probably most compatible with other ultralight people focused on refining gear and getting weight down. Open as to age/gender. Send me a PM.

Thanks
Ryan

P.S - forgot to mention that I'm in the Portland area.

I am looking for someone to hike towards Vahalla Falls(we'd not reach them) in the Jefferson Wilderness. I want to go from the bottom up to where I could go no further. I think on the OPB program a few years ago, it took the partners of the top down 2 days to hike bottom up. Since I do not know the area nor the difficulty level I should go with someone. Since I am short & older than most, I hike slower than most. And I'd want to stop for photographs now & then.

Ryan:
Where is this apparently Alpine(?) lake you have on your post?
Thank-you,
Lois

Hi Lois, Sorry I didn't see your messages until now. I actually forget the name of that lake. It's one of the hundreds of lakes along the John Muir Trail in California.

Possibly Rae Lakes? I'm only chiming in because that might be Painted Lady in the background.

Looking for a dependable, genuine hiking partner male or female in the 40--60 age range with a vehicle to hike in the Mt. Saint Helens monument or other higher country/alpine areas this coming June, July and possibly September during peek wildflower seasons and cooler late summer early fall/less bloodsuckers season. These could either be day hikes or short backpacks of 10-20 miles rt. Will discuss details either at this site after response, otp or possibly online via facebook. My name is Matt, and I am a long time transplant to Oregon from back east, 56 years old and in decent shape, but long for hiking more wild and remote places like I used to when I drove, other than settling for city parks and mobs of people/noise/ignorance and bs. Days available to do this could include less busy weekdays also, which are preferable for me for that reason on more popular hikes.
