Re: Marion Lake 12/29/2023

Thanks! Does it say how much snow is supposed to be there?

If it's less than 24 inch I can make it in the Jeep, probably 12 inch with the truck. Depending on ice layer conditions.

Here was at the first snow on Oct 27th, probably 6 inch of fresh.

Marion Lake 12/29/2023

Hey all. Been a while. Me and the doggos decided on seeing what the trail up to Marion Lake was like today. Brought the fly rod, but was a bit too windy to make it fun. No snow on the drive at all, and only small bits here and there, even all the way up to the lake. Weird year. It was cool being abl...

Re: Herman Ck to Benson Plateau via PCT (11 Jul 08)

Coming back from Whatum, I actually prefer the PCT route over Eagle Creek. Of course, I like drier, alpine trails and views over river trails.

Thanks for the report!

Re: How do you hang your bear bag?

I have an Ursack. It's a little heavier, but there is notmuch more in the backcountry than slinging rocks or biners over branches. :) I just tie mine at the base of a tree.

Re: Timberline Trail - tick season over?

Ticks are not a problem on Mt Hood. Especially not for people. I;ve been on the mountain from April until Nov, never seen one. My dog has picked up a few as far west as Eagle Creek in the Gorge though.

Re: Ollalie Lake?

Thanks Gene. SNow up to a foot or so won't bother me on the road in sections, however there's one section right after Lower Lake campground that becomes a bit of a steep hill in the snow. This was last year, April 15th-ish http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/g347/pcoplin/Camping/April%202015/Olallie...

Ollalie Lake?

Anyone been up there this year yet? How passible is the road? Want to bring my little daughter hiking up there, playing around in the snow if there is some.

Re: Beginning of the End?

I got a ticket once when I was backpacking the INdian Heaven wilderness several years ago. I was at the Cultus Lake side at the campground. I had the pass in the glove box, too.

Re: Badger Lake Fire

"The land owners were NOT happy" They live next to forest where there's a fire danger. They expect the FS to protect them. They're probably also opposed to government spending on other programs, don't want the government messing with them,... :) Always easier to address short term problem - fightin...

Re: Badger Lake Fire

Personally I think the FS is under fire from the Canyon Creek fire. The people were NOT happy they did the normal FS thing and let it burn because it was in the wilderness. Then the winds came and burned down 40+ homes. I was at that fire when it burned towards Prarie City and we lost 3 homes. The l...
