Re: Three Fingered Jack East Canyon Meadows July 3rd

I was in the area Friday July 9, but did not have a pass. I thought I'd sneak in the back way from Bear Valley via Wasco Lake but found out the trail is no longer maintained. The salal and ironwood have completely grown over the tread. And given the name Bear Valley it's perfect terrain in which to ...

Re: McNeil Point, 8/19/18, or A Defense of Hiking in Crowds

Nice essay! These days you know if you go to McNeil, Paradise, or Tamanawas or (gulp) Mirror Lake its going to be social, but dang it, those places are just so good and sometimes its a fun change of pace.

Nice pics. What were the temps like?
In the 40's on the way up (6:30AM) , 90's on the way down. I was down by noon. You don't want to be in those lava flows in the afternoon if you can help it.

Nice report. Excellent camping around the base of the Husband at Eileen Lake or Husband Lake. I believe that Summitpost has a page on the Husband that offers some insight into climbing it.
Thanks, Old and Slow. The Summit Post page seemed like pretty good info.

4 in 1 Cone

Took the Scott Trail from OR 242 to 4 in 1 Cone July 14. Much of the trail was apparently once a pioneer (Scott) road and the grade is very easy in most places. http://i525.photobucket.com/albums/cc336/toleak/4%20in%201%20Cone/IMG_4422.jpg Starting off with some very nice meadows. http://i525.photob...

Tamanawas Falls

Hats off to USFS for clearing a path through the rockfall zone near the falls. Last September it was a real scamble to get through. We even saw a group form a bucket brigade to pass their baby from hand to hand over it but it's easy now. http://i525.photobucket.com/albums/cc336/toleak/Rainy%20Lake/I...
