Re: USFS oppression marches on with proposed high-Hood permit

Traditionally, "I want to be able to show up late and have a space waiting for me" is not how things work. If there's limited numbers of something and it's in demand, you show up earlier than everyone else to make sure you get it. Or else you get something else. Key word, traditionally . I don’t ca...

Re: USFS oppression marches on with proposed high-Hood permit

Well nimbyism would imply that those who get them always get them, I think. I’ve had more “losses” than “wins” as far as getting permits, but it’s just part of the trade off. Sometimes I get lucky, most times I don’t. I could see a bit more difficulty justifying day hiking permits though—maybe for t...

Re: USFS oppression marches on with proposed high-Hood permit

A year ago I passed someone between Middle and South Sister, who recognized me from here. He expressed the same opinion - he liked the reduced crowds personally, and said that he was able to get a permit so that's not a problem. We respectfully disagreed :) That wasn't me, but since using the new C...

Re: Gnarl Ridge from Cloud Cap (Oct 21)

Your photos always inspire me so much! I just love how vivid and clear they always look. Vibrant and rich, but also realistic and not over the top either, truly representing the landscape in a beautiful but faithful way, like they could belong in a travel magazine. I've tried to emulate that look wh...

Re: Lava Canyon - Old Road 83 Loop

I just found your Youtube channel by chance today and see a video on this Rd 83 loop hike, and then I come on OregonHikers and see a TR of the same loop hike. I had a feeling it could be you, and what do you know, it was! When I saw the hikes shown on your channel (some that were more off the beaten...

Thanks for sharing!

I also made it to the top of South Sister but a few days before you did.

I backpacked to the summit and camped at the top. It was super windy all night and morning for me.

Re: Mt. Adams area and a plane crash site. 072623

I was hiking around there above The Bumper a few years ago and instantly recognized that view looking west toward the Bumper and St Helens. I spent a lot of time up there right in that area, and descended down that route toward the Bumper, but somehow never saw the crash site. Probably all I had to ...

The drive back was beautiful. I had to stop to enjoy the view of two mountains in the distance. Is that Mt. Rainier on the right?

Great trip report! I love that place. Thanks for sharing. That mountain on the right is Mount Adams in Washington.

Re: Sunrise Camp: 9/25/22

I had no idea the swampy crossing between Hellroaring and Ridge of Wonders wasn't allowed. It is even described in nwhikers.com as an optional loop, and there's been some trip reports of that loop posted here in the past if I recall. It would help if they were more clear on their rules and had an ac...

Re: Oct 7-8 in the North Cascades - Larches and other colorful things

Wow, beautiful pictures and hike! Thanks for sharing. I did the Cutthroat Pass hike and the Heather-Maple Pass loop hike last year during larch season and it was very pretty. Want to do Blue Lake someday. I am practically obsessed with larches (which is why I planted a few alpine larches and western...
