Re: Eagle Creek in Salmon Huckleberry: evidence of ***hole motorbiker

I imagine the new road extension has emboldened such lowlifes. What new road extension? Is this in the area of Harvey Road Trailhead or another entry point? Chip, if this is the same trail I'm thinking of it's clearly Wilderness and signed that way. Yes, it's at the end of Harvey Road. The old bloc...

Re: Wildcat Mountain Road closed to New McIntryre Trail

I'm pretty sure the gate was open yesterday when we walked by it at the intersection with road 105. Maybe they opened it again after deer season was over and they'll close it again when the snow gets too deep?

Re: #511 South Fork Roaring River - September 12, 2009

Well it's been ten years since Paul's exploration of the beginning of this long lost trail. I'm happy to report that more of it has been found and am hoping that eventually even more can be located. The problem is that the old maps show the trail right next to the river when actually is stays higher...

Are there any notable omissions from the BLM OR/WA Carto Basemap for this area?

That map looks pretty good. At first glance, all I see missing are a few trails: the west end of Red Lake, Potato Butte, Lodgepole, Fish Lake and Olallie Butte.

Re: The case of missing Monon Lake

Maybe Google is getting some of their map data from the forest service? The map below is from a forest service webpage. Apparently, once you're out of the national forest they aren't too interested in details. It shows the same truncated version of Island Lake. Interestingly, it also shows a trail g...

Re: The case of missing Monon Lake

Not to muddy the waters, but why is the Monon Lake Trail #729 also missing from the forest service map? https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/mthood/recarea/?recid=52970 All of the other forest service trails in the area are showing properly. When I first noticed Monon Lake and the trail were missing, I t...

Re: The case of missing Monon Lake

Now you see it: Where is Monon Lake - zoom 3 mile scale.jpg Now you don't: Where is Monon Lake - zoom 2 mile scale.jpg Here's a 300% browser zoom of the 3 mile scale that shows a stream leaving the northeast side of Monon. This is a fictional stream. When the snow is melting and water is flowing, th...

Re: Happy Birthday!

I wish I'd seen your comment yesterday Rob. I'm sure there's a wisecrack that could have been made about the title of this thread and your advancing age. Alas, it's too late now. You're a year older and there's no turning back now!
