Incorrect date info
I just noticed a few references to the Dollar Lake fire in the field guide with the incorrect date in them. The fire was in 2011 not 2012. It a small thing but I figured you'd want to fix it.

The flowers look gorgeous! BTW the orange tiger lily is called Columbia lily. The one you posted is called Cascade, Washington or Mount Hood lily. I LOVE how they smell. Glad you found your missing kit. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Jefferson Park Changes 2016
A friend of mine is a backcountry ranger up in the Jefferson Wilderness and is up there every week. He just started his patrols for the year. He loves the Wilderness as much as the rest of us and would much prefer to educate folks breaking the rules than ticket them. That said, I have personally see...

Re: Cook Hill, 5/12/16: Meh.
I've hiked Dog Mountain every year for the last fifteen but I find myself getting more and more annoyed every year. The summit used to be gorgeous all the way to the very top but now it's almost entirely bare dirt up there. Folks lie around in the flowers, picnic in them, walk through them to get th...

Re: Deschutes River 4/20-4/21
We were out there last Friday-Saturday, 4/22-23. Y'know, you can do much of that hike down by the river, not on the old railbed. We didn't get to the homestead this year but on other trips, we've seen bighorns on the cliffs just past the tower. The side trail by the arch up to Ferry Springs is also ...

Please, Please, PLEASE... If you go here, try your very best to walk on durable surfaces. I would hate to see these meadows trampled into a grassy bald like the summit of Dog Mountain and parts of Rowena.

My partner is a very skilled photographer. He's not a traditional "wedding photographer" but has shot weddings. Check out zapgraphics.com.

Re: Do you take a musical instrument backpacking?
Sad to say, we met Ruth Boden on the trail in the Wallowas and neither of us had our ukes on our packs. Wimps!

Re: Do you take a musical instrument backpacking?
Heck yes! I have a couple of plastic ukuleles that have been along for a few shorter overnighters. One is an Outdoor Ukulele made in Bend and the other is a BugsGear which by far sounds the best of the two but weighs a bit more.

Re: Deschutes River - on the river trail
Yeah, what DoubleTree said. I much prefer walking on the lower trail whenever possible. We were expecting low temps in the high 30s but as we poured water for tea into our pots in the morning, it froze before our eyes. Being windless was our salvation. This is such a great spot for a low elevation h...
