Re: Another adventure in the Dark Divide, Peak 5580

Great adventure! We thought of you Friday and almost cancelled our Mt Minnie ascent. The idea was that the Don and Kelly reaction to us bagging Peak 4900 would be worth it! If ambitious, we could also have tagged Peak 5015...

Re: Visiting this summer, looking for suggestions

A Cheryl says, it depends on exactly when you come and the local conditions. Snow can be a real problem at 5-6,000' in July, depending on the year. Some hikes that come to my mind as outstanding are: Coast: Salishan Spit (seals!) or Cascade Head [note that the coast is always cool - I have hiked the...

I just missed the rope in the rain, I was there shortly after you and Guy (as I recall). It is a fun area... I have not been back on the west side of the creek since. :(

Re: Greenleaf Creek, falls, slide

The "normal" route up/ down to the Greenleaf Basin is on the east side of Greenleaf Creek; you can also go up the west side of the creek, there was a rope (though I never found it).

Re: Suggested Late Season Backpacking - Portland?

The coast has not been mentioned yet (I think) and is always a great place with no snow issues. I love Salishan Spit and here is a children's version of it. Cascade Head is another great hike around there. PS: The road to Timberline Lodge is paved and there will be signs miles ahead if chains are ne...

Re: Suggested Late Season Backpacking - Portland?

Forget about a five day backpack. Stay somewhere around Bend and do some day hikes. The weather should be dry. Smith Rock is fantastic and the Badlands Wilderness should allow you to spend at least one night under the stars. Now, if you hike really slow in the Badlands...

Last night I was reading the Swiss Alpine Club's monthly magazine and it held a similar story where a ...
