Whychus Creek-Deschutes River Confluence

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Deschutes River below the confluence with Whychus Creek (bobcat)
Rainbow Ridge looming above the confluence (bobcat)

Description

Whychus Creek and the Deschutes River meet here below the colorful ramparts of Rainbow Ridge. The actual confluence can be accessed via a brushy tunnel, but a little farther down is a great picnic site under ponderosa pines. You can take a dip in the Deschutes here and sunbathe on a rocky knoll that gives views down the canyon. A little farther down the Deschutes are a couple of campsites.

Across the river, you may notice a trail described in the Scout Camp Trail Loop Hike. It's impossible to cross the river here, so don't even try!
