Description

Pinard Falls is one of a trio of attractive and easily visited waterfalls in the northern section of the Cottage Grove Ranger District in the Umpqua National Forest. The other two are Spirit Falls and Moon Falls. Many visitors take in all three waterfalls in a single trip, making for a total of 2.8 miles and 600 feet of elevation gain. While in some years, you can visit in any season, bear in mind that there can be winter events, such as a windstorm or heavy snowfall, that might prevent access, especially to Pinard Falls.

You'll first be following an old logging spur through a lush secondary forest. After 1/3 mile the trail leaves the old road bed on the left, and continues to descend to a rock ledge, where you can get your a sighting of 105-foot Pinard Falls. From the ledge, the trail switchbacks down to an overlook that takes in the entire drop. Pinard Falls plunges in an impressive horsetail down a narrow basalt cleft into a deep pool, which is shaded for most of the year. The trails can be quite muddy in the wet season.
