Hikes starting here

Driving Directions

Use this trailhead between December 1st and May 15th:

Drive Highway 26 west: from the merge with Highway 217, it’s 47.3 miles to a left turn for Highway 103, Mist, and Jewell.

Descend 0.1 miles, and make right for Mist and Jewell.

Drive up the Nehalem River for 9.0 miles, and at a T-junction, turn right onto Highway 202 for Birkenfeld and Vernonia.

Go 5.9 miles, and turn left onto Northrup Creek Road for the Northrup Creek Horse Camp.

Drive up this road for 1.9 miles, and stay left at the junction with Cow Ridge Road (The road becomes gravel after 1.5 miles at the junction with Old 77 Vesper Lane).

Continue 1.1 miles and pull off to the side of the road where you see trail signs (In another 0.35 miles, you’ll come to a yellow gate across the road).
