Description
Hellroaring Meadows have reverted to pristine form after being grazed by sheep from the late 19th to mid-20th century. Several branches of Hellroaring Creek run through the meadow, some through challenging steep-sided gullies. Meltwater from Mount Adams' Mazama Glacier to the west feeds the meadows, which exhibit large expanses of sedges and rushes rimmed by stands of willow and mountain hemlock. There are no trails here: when crossing the meadows, keep to the conifer stands as much as possible to avoid getting your feet wet and damaging the bogs. Mountain goats seek refuge down here in the cold season.
