Driving Directions

WARNING: Do NOT attempt to hike from this trailhead unless you appreciate a gnarly little bushwhack. The trail has been abandoned here because it crosses a private inholding. It becomes lost in the brush and, in some places, you may (briefly) be crawling on your hands and knees.

Drive Highway 26 east.

From the last traffic light in Sandy, just past the ARCO station, drive 30.8 miles through Rhododendron and Government Camp to the junction with Highway 35 for Hood River.

Bear right here and go 4.7 miles to turn right onto FR 48 for Wamic and the Rock Creek Reservoir just after crossing the White River.

Go 15.5 miles on this paved forest road, and turn left onto FR 4860 for Badger Lake.

After 0.2 miles, bear left onto gravel FR 4870.

In 1.7 miles, keep left at a junction.

Continue on FR 4870 another 1.4 miles, dodging overhanging snow brush, to an old logging road leading down to the left signed for the Crane Creek Trail #478.
