Clark's Viewpoint

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Beacon Rock from Hamilton Island (bobcat)

Description

Clark's Viewpoint looks west from Hamilton (Strawberry) Island across the bottomlands of Hardy Slough to Beacon Rock. To the left are Ives and Pierce Islands.

Lieutenant William Clark crossed what he called "Strawberry Island" on October 31st, 1805, and viewed Beacon Rock for the first time. He noted evidence of cultivation on the island as well as areas where Native Americans had been digging for camas roots.
